What we do:

We know that balancing three items – visitor experience, client needs, and quality content – are essential to delivering successful outcomes. We apply the established principles of interpretation to ensure visitors leave having had a meaningful experience.

Interpretation planning, concepts, and design

We provide a wide range of interpretation services from Interpretive planning (such as Interpretation Strategies and Master Plans) to project specific displays and installations (such as exhibitions, visitor centres and informational signage). We take time to really understand the place, its values, and the communities connected to it. We like to think 'outside the box' when it comes to how we tell stories. Interpretation is so much more than signage!

We are skilled project managers who oversee the overall project process in addition to providing visitor experience expertise and content development. When the time is right, we have a wide team of graphic designers, 3D designers, and production specialists with whom we collaborate. We work hard to find the right team for each job and are always open to new collaborations.

Research and content development

We provide historical research and content development for conservation plans, exhibitions, and displays. We often envision ourselves as a miner, following every tunnel looking for “jewels.”

We use our interpretive skills to make sure the research we provide is organized, relevant, and enjoyable. We know the best stories are often told through images so all our research is supplemented with compelling images to support the stories being told.

Heritage advice and conservation planning

We provide specialist heritage advice related to heritage management, Assessments of Environmental Effects, and general conservation planning. We know that conservation advice and planning are important for ensuring the values of our heritage sites are identified, known and preserved.

We take the time to understand our clients needs when it comes to their heritage property and to advise them on best conservation practice. We understand that for heritage to remain relevant it needs to be used and so we work collaboratively with our clients to ensure their needs are met while still following the principles outlined in the NZ ICOMOS charter (2010).

Interpretation is a creative process that creates pathways for people to connect to the places and stories around them. Interpretation can take many forms from conventional signage to utilising design, public art, interactive installations and digital platforms. Some people call this “Place Making.”
